Anime : Farewell, My Dear Cramer

A new anime television series premiered in Apr/2021 adapted from the original manga series.

I have highly anticipated this anime prior to its broadcasting, as the original author is Naoshi Arakawa who made one of my most favorite titles “Your Lie in April”.

A classic ensemble cast focused on high-school girls’ soccer. “Cramer” of the title refers to Dettmar Cramer from Dortmund, Germany who came to Japan and led the leaders of the Japanese football after his retirement as a player. In tribute to him, the story also focuses on the bonds between main characters, high school girls, and their female coach (a former ace female soccer player) .

Created by LIDENFILMS (“The Badminton play of Ayano Hanesaki!”, “Boarding School Juliet”). Directed by Seiki Takuno (“Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches”, ”Boarding School Juliet”). Scripted by Natsuko Takahashi (“Tales of Agriculture Returns”, ”Yuyushiki”). Voiced by Miyuri Shimabukuro (“The Badminton play of Ayano Hanesaki!”, ”Carole & Tuesday”), Shion Wakayama(“Her Blue Sky”), Tomoyo Kurosawa (“The Girl in Twilight”, “Karakuri Circus”), Aoi Yuki (“Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, “The Saga of Tanya the Evil”), Shiho Kokido (“Drifters”, “Sekkô Boys”), Yu Shimamura (“Attack on Titan”, “Boarding School Juliet”), Marina Yamada (“Rainy Cocoa: Side g”, ”Seaside Zhuang's Aqua Girl”), Rena Maeda (“Jinsei”, ” The World Is Still Beautiful”), Azumi Waki (“Katana Maidens: Toji No Miko”, “How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord”), Yūko Kaida (“The Promised Neverland”, ”Toradora!”), Suwabe Junichi (“The Prince of Tennis”, “Choyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi”), Saori Hayami (“The Saga of Tanya the Evil”, “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day”), Yui Ishikawa (“Attack on Titan”, “Violet Evergarden”), Makoto Koichi, Yui Makino (“Angel Beats!”, “C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control”), Nichika Ōmori (“Seven Senses of the Re'Union”, “Dropkick on My Devil!!” ), Takaya Kuroda (“Afterschool Dice Club”, “Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Rhyme Anima”.)

Both the staff and the voice actors/actresses are impeccable, but for better or worse, it has the same gentle touch of the original manga. That has made  soccer playing scenes less dynamic although it is unnoticeable in the conversation scenes of the characters.

In many ways, I have realized the difficulty of a manga adaptation once again. I will continue to watch it as I am a fan of the original manga.
