Animated from manga, and represents all 5 volumes of the original story in approximately 100 minutes of footage.
The title "Blue Thermal" refers to an updraft that cannot be seen by the naked eye in a cloudless blue sky.
The story carefully depicts a college girl who joins the aviation club by chance and uses her talents to successfully capture a blue thermal.
Although the name of the university does not exist, the glider gliding field in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, a sacred place for glider riders, actually appears in the film, and the city of Kumagaya and its scenery are carefully recreated. The sponsors also include Suzuyo, a logistics company based in Shimizu City that handles air and sea logistics.
The film depicts the difficulties of teamwork and the conflicts between men and women, families, and senior and junior staff.
The emotional transitions of the characters seem a bit rushed, but this is to be expected in a 100-minute film.
There was no big promotion for this film, and it was only shown in a limited number of theaters, so I almost missed it. Although I had not marked this film at all, it is really nice film that I was lucky to watch.
