Vinland is a land dreamed of by people driven from Norway and other countries to northern Iceland, and the main character, who is depicted as a young boy in the beginning of the film, is modeled on the real-life explorer/merchant Thorfinn Karlsefni Thorsaldsson. Vinland's godfather, Leif, also appears in the film.
The first 3 episodes were broadcast in one sitting. The film carefully depicts the life in Iceland at that time, and gives a sense that it will be a massive epic work.
