A new anime starting in April 2024.
This anime is an adaptation of a novel. Originally, it was adapted into anime in January to March 2008 (first season, 13 episodes) and July to September 2009 (second season, 13 episodes), following the publication of the novel in 2007. However, this time, instead of continuing from where the previous adaptations left off, it's a remake starting from the beginning of the story.
The original novel series has had 24 volumes published up to the present, with spin-offs that depict the children of the main characters. As I started watching this anime, there's a scene at the beginning where the mother (the main heroine of this installment) tells her daughter an adventure tale, a delightful nod to fans of the original work.
The story itself seems to faithfully follow the original novel, making it enjoyable even for those who haven't read the source material or watched the previous adaptations. The beautiful visuals crafted with current technology, along with the return of the same cast for the main characters and the main heroine (Jun Fukuyama, Ami Koshimizu) as in the previous adaptations, make it a treat to watch. I'm looking forward to watching it unfold.
The production is by Passione ("citrus"), with Takashi Takeo, who previously directed anime, serving as the executive director, Sanpei Hijiri("Wasteful Days of High School Girls": Director) as director, and Urahata Tatsuhiko("Hi Score Girl" : Screenplay & Composition) as composition. The voice cast includes Fukuyama Jun("Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion":Lelouch), Koshimizu Ami("Koukyou Shihen Eureka Seven":ANEMONE), Namikawa Daisuke("Haikyu!!":Oikawa Toru), Ōtsuka Hōchū ("Golden Kamuy":Tsurumi Tokushirou), Goda Hozumi("Konjiki no Gash!!": Kafka Sunbeam), Nakahara Mai("FAIRY TAIL": Juvia Lockser) and others.
