Animated from a manga by Nihei Tsutomu("Knights of Sidonia"), and like other Nihei works, Polygon Pictures is in charge of animation production for this work as well.
Directed by Ando Hiroaki("Ajin: Demi-Human season 2": Director), composed by Murai Sadayuki("Natsume's Book of Friends"3rd-6th season:Composition), screenplay by Murai Sadayuki and Yamada Tetsuya("Knights of Sidonia": Screenplay).
The story is set on a future Earth where the "snow sea" has suddenly erupted, undermining human habitation on the ground, and people live only under the "film" protected by special trees.
The story begins in the 1st episode with a chance encounter between a princess who has been driven from the world of the snow sea and the only young man left in the human village, and together with the theme music by Sawano Hiroyuki("Attack on Titan": Music), it foreshadows an epic storyline.
