Overview & Background
The story is a romantic comedy about a high school boy who moves from Tokyo to Okinawa and falls in love with a local Okinawan girl. However, he faces a major problem—he can't understand a word of her Okinawan dialect (Uchinaaguchi).
The plot revolves around a love triangle involving the protagonist, the main heroine, and a female classmate who helps translate Okinawan dialect into standard Japanese while secretly harboring feelings for the protagonist. Their awkward and comical interactions make for an entertaining story.
During scenes where the heroine speaks, subtitles in standard Japanese appear at the bottom of the screen, making it feel like watching a foreign film—viewers need to follow the subtitles to understand what she's saying. This highlights the stark differences between Okinawan dialect and standard Japanese while showcasing the impressive Okinawan speech skills of voice actresses Akari Kito and Fairouz Ai.
Additionally, the anime is packed with "Okinawa cultural quirks," making it both educational and enjoyable. Most of all, it’s filled with elements that will make viewers want to visit Okinawa!
